Day Thirty-Six:
Good morning, I slept until 6, made my hot black brew, and started thinking about writing. I haven’t written anything but this blog for over a month, I have done many things to get our life in order, but haven’t done any serious writing…
Before the virus I dream’t of having the time to finish writing my novel and start on another. But, alas, it didn’t happen. I think I might have started on it right away if my world hadn’t changed so drastically. If the first stay-at-home orders had been: three weeks at home, job waiting for me, getting vacation pay, and then going back to my job, I wouldn’t have had a care in the world. Of course I would have been concerned about the well-being of my fellow man, but I would have treated it more like a three week vacation. I remember feeling exactly that way. As it turned out, three days into all of this I lost my job. This set me into survival mode, it was time to set-up my new world during a time of uncertainty.
For all intents and purposes this part is now behind me, my life has changed, my foundation is set, and now it is time to build my house. Sh_t or get off the pot my man! I have more than finished the house, now it’s time to live in it, not keep fiddling with painting the trim…
E. L. Doctorow once said that “writing a novel is like driving a car at night. You can see only as far as your headlights, but you can make the whole trip that way.” You don’t have to see where you’re going, you don’t have to see your destination or everything you will pass along the way. You just have to see two or three feet ahead of you. This is right up there with the best advice about writing, or life, I have ever heard. Anne Lamott...
The last time I did any writing in A New Frontier was March 11th, it is now April 21st. That is way too long. Time to get back at it. Right now!!
I did my walk alone and started an audio book, Stephen King’s, The Stand.
When I got home I started writing, and and finished at about four-o’clock. I completed a new chapter for A New Frontier. After that I made a Gin Ricky and recorded the prologue for the novel, and edited it adding a score.
I ate a salad for dinner and went to bed about nine…
