Day Twenty-Three:

I slept in this morning until almost 6 am. I made coffee, and glanced at the news. I found an article in the New York Times on editing your own writing. So far it is one of the best pieces I have read on the subject, but I must set it down for a bit because it is time for our daily walk.

When we got back Erin went to work on de-wintering our back yard, be it so small, and I mean small. We love it back there, it is our little sanctuary. As she always does with everything, especially cleaning it now looks great! She left me an area near the back gate so I can build a planter-box for veggies. I ordered seeds and a couple of seven-gallon containers for potatoes and carrots.

I went into the loft in our garage and found the wood I need to build the planter box. I measured everything and I think I can complete the project tomorrow.

I made a crock-pot of turkey-burger stew today, I am getting low on frozen veggies but have have canned ones I can use latter. These stews I make are not quite conventional, I use frozen vegetables, what ever meat is in the freezer, and some kind of beans. It has just about everything you need for a fairly nutritious meal. Like I mentioned previously Erin calls it all, Doug’s Galoshes (Goulash). The main difference between mine and most others is that I leave out the potatoes. Too much starch for us.

We are having tacos tonight, they are also not conventional. They use real corn tortillas, but the taco meat and seasoning comes in a can from Loma Linda Foods. They have produced vegetarian meats and meals for over a hundred years. Almost all of it comes in cans and has a best used by time of three years, but would probably be safe for ten. I used to use their stuff back in the eighty’s and I always liked how it tasted. Their stuff is pretty damn good and nutritious for canned food. With the Powers saying for seniors not to go out, even for groceries for the next two weeks I was trying to figure a way to extend my protein supply. I checked on Amazon and most of the canned meats were out of stock, and then I remembered about Loma Linda. I think it will work just fine.

We had our tacos, and watched His Girl Friday, with Cary Grant. It was fast passed and was a good movie to get your mind off the real world.

I talked on the phone with my old boss Dalton and we chatted for about an hour.

Now I am going to finish that New York Times story on editing your writing, them I’m off to bed…
